What we did
The report, on the care home in Twickenham, was part of a series of Enter & View documents into residential care homes in the area. We use our statutory powers for Enter & View visits so that we can request information and meet with staff, residents and family members.
Summary
We observed the care was of a high standard. Residents’ comments included that it “feels like home”, and that they were “happy there”.
The atmosphere was welcoming and activities were generally well enjoyed. Residents stated that staff were helpful and one said “I am treated as an individual”. Staff were also positive about their work, and the report supports the home’s apparent practice of involving residents in staff hiring.
There were however some concerns around signage. Our report advises the home to make the residents’ activities list larger print, and to place the list slightly lower down to aid wheelchair users trying to read it. Pictorial signage could also be extended for those with dementia. We also advised for noise levels to be reduced where possible.
