West Middlesex Hospital- Adult inpatient wards

We carried out a series of visits to review adult inpatient wards at West Middlesex Hospital. The findings of the report were based on the experiences of over 100 patients and/or their family, and 27 members of staff.

Summary

Patients were generally very happy with the care they had received and staff were widely praised for their friendly approach.

“Restored my faith in the NHS”

Patient on Marble Hill 2 ward

We repeatedly observed staff working hard to provide a kind, caring and professional service in all the wards we visited.

“Very, very good… can't fault them… everyone works so hard”

Patient on Lampton ward

The majority of poor care we encountered took place in the Marble Hill 1 ward. In this particular ward, there were a concerning volume of issues spanning: care at mealtimes, medication provision and patient hygiene.

We were encouraged by the consistently positive staff feedback about the teams they worked in. However, we were concerned by the number of staff who referred to staffing issues and the pressures this places them under.

We made our recommendations to the Hospital and they committed to an action plan. Read this in detail in the full report.
